PABIC Organized Half Day Seminar entitled; “Significance of Popular Science Writing”

Half day seminar entitled, “Significance of Popular Science Writing” was organized by the Pakistan Biotechnology Information Center (PABIC) in collaboration with print media and  International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences University of Karachi on 20th June 2018.

The seminar  was consist of lectures by leading scientists and journalists including, Mr. Aleem Ahmed, Senior Journalist and Blog Editor at Express News, Mr. Suhail Yousuf, Feature Editor at Express News,  Professor Dr. Jamil Hasan Kazmi, Chairman – Department of Geography, UoK and Director ICCBS Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary H.I., S.I., T.I.

Seminar was started by the recitation of Holy Qur’an and welcome address by Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary H.I., S.I., T.I. Director of PABIC.

Prof Iqbal Choudhary said that science asphalt the ways of rationality in any society as science provides values to a society. He pointed out that science can help feed the hungry as it contributes to poverty alleviation, and it also heals the sick.

He perceives that less that 0.1 percent time of electronic media is dedicated for science and technology. Internet is contributing in misinformation about the science.

“Science can protect our environment, as the planet melts due to global warming. Pakistan is among the frontline states to battle the climate change impact.”

These views were expressed by senior journalists and scientists, Aleem Ahmed .

He said that science enables people to cerebrate and work rationally, which is inexorable for common people to divine science as it is of rudimentary value for a knowledge-based economy and a knowledge-driven progressive society.

Suhail Yousuf said that the promotion of science at the grass-root level was the need of the hour in our society. He said that Pakistan is confronting with devil of extremism which requires best remedy to be cured, while science is the best antidote of extremism.

Prof Jamil Kazmi talked about the use of drone technology for environment studies in Pakistan.

In the end, Prof. Dr.  Sammer Yousuf  coordinator PABIC expressed thanks to all participant of the seminar.
